1/4 plate tintype of a Union private wearing a forage style cap, 4 button sack coat, a military vest with small
zouave style buttons and tinted blue trousers. He holds a musket at attention with the bayonet affixed. This musket
has a sling and also a barrel nipple making me think it is not a prop, but rather his own rifle. He wears a waist plate
and a cross chest plate with buckles on both. There is a cap box on his waist belt and also a lanyard around his neck, but
I don't know what that goes to; maybe a watch. The backdrop is a nice military backdrop with a tent, cannon and drum. There
is a partial 3 cent tax stamp on the reverse with a cancellation date of 1864. The image has two dimples to the upper left of
his shoulder as can be seen in the scan. There are also some irregularities in the tin; not quote "bends" but not flat either.
This image comes in a full thermoplastic case that is in PERFECT condition. It is Berg's 1-39 "The Dance", is considered
scarce and has a value of over $300 by itself. #10865=$700.00
