The sailor in this 1/4 plate tintype stands in front of a nicely painted military (army) backdrop showing a camp scene with guards on duty.
There is also a drape on the opposite edge with stars like a flag's canton, but no stripes on the drape . . . odd. Considering the fern at the
base of the backdrop, this would lead me to believe this sailor has made port in a southern state and has made it to this photographer's studio for
his image. The uniform is in pristine condition and he holds his enlisted naval cap in his hand. The tin has been irregularly trimmed, but displays
well in the full wood and paper case that has been repaired at the spine. #11527=$350.00
