This older than average private is posed in a photographer's studio with a large American flag as a focal point in the back drop. The private in
this 1/4 plate tintype wears a frock coat, kepi and a waist belt with a cap box and what appears to be a photographer's prop belt plate. It appear to
me that the belt plate is custom made (backwards) to read correctly when photographed. It looks like it has either been placed over a rectangular eagle
plate or has a support structure of some sort to fasten it over a real belt plate. This soldier holds his musket with attached bayonet and sling to his side.
The image comes in a thermoplastic case, Berg's #3-22. The case is in GREAT shape with only a couple of edge chips. The case has strong hinges and intact
