I.D.'d with the last name of Schoof, the first initial appears to be either J or an F. My research indicates that those with F as
the first initial were in their mid to late 30's and clearly this soldier is not that old. In terms of the first initial of J, that
narrows it to an Indiana unit or a Wisconsin unit. The image is in a memorial mat which leads me to believe this is John Schoof of the
4th WI Cavalry. John Schoof enlisted on 2/24/1864 and died of disease on 11/4/1864. He's buried in the National Cemetery at Baton
Rouge, LA. This trooper wears a 4 button sack coat and a bummer's cap. Loose I.D., but maybe some more research can shed prove this to be him. #9154=$135.00
