The shell jacket is an early war state issue jacket with shoulder tabs and possibly 8 buttons. There is no cuff trim that we see on federal issue jackets. He wears a leather belt with a rectangular eagle plate. He holds a Model 1850 Foot Officers sword. He also has a pistol tucked under his belt, but no holster. The pistol is a bit of a mystery. I don't know of a pistol that has the trop strap with a rebated cylinder and two piece grips. It is likely an import. The artist of this 1/6 plate tintype has done a very nice job of gilding the buttons. The "C" on the face of the forage cap is very precisely gilded. The image comes in a VERY nice leatherette full case and there is no I.D. This image is published in my book "Civil War Hard Images Volume 4 - Union." #13520=$525.00
