This horizontal pose is highly unusual, especially for an image of a single soldier. The soldier in this 1/6 plate clear ambrotype wears the distinctive jacket of an Indiana Zouave with the sewn in grey/blue vest into the dark blue jacket. This could be any number of units, but I'm thinking likely the 12th or 34th IN. His tall forage cap has the company "I" brass letter.
