Published in my recent book "Military Hard Images Volume - 2, Union" this 1/6 plate tintype comes with no written identification, but with one important clue. The device on the front of this soldier's kepi indicates (in reverse) "87th PV". This narrows the search quite dramatically. I believe this soldier is Theodore C. Norris. Initially the 87th guarded the rail line between Baltimore and the PA state line and they then moved into Baltimore proper. The regiment fought at Winchester, Manassas, Brandy Station and the Wilderness. At Cold Harbour, its loss in KIA and wounded was almost 1/3 of its strength. The image comes in a full leatherette case thathas been repaired at the spine. #3257=$450.00
