There is a pencil I.D. on the back of the case for this CDV sized tintype matted and framed. I've adjusted the contrast and I think I can make
out "Charles Lancaster ____ father ____ Carpenter ____." There is a 36 year old private in the 144th NY Infantry, but this guy looks older than
36 years to me. That said, the image is crisp and bright. If the frame looks non symmetrical, it's because of its position on my scanner. The image
has one rust area by his hand, otherwise it's clear and well focused. I have NOT had the tin out of the frame. There may be something back there, but
