Whether the inclusion of the American flag in this 1/6 plate tintype indicates that this soldier was the flagbearer of his unit is unknown. What we
do know is that he is I.D.'d Henry M. L. Hofius, a member of the 150th PA Infantry Company E.. The records conflict a bit, but it appears he joined
the regiment on 8/9/1863 immediately after the 150th saw significant action at Gettysburg with high casualties. He was mustered out on 2/23/1865 and
would have seen action at The Wilderness, Spotsylvania Courthouse, Cold Harbor and Petersburg just to mention a few. On the table, next to the flag, he
has a dark Hardy hat and a very long barreled pistol. The image comes in a complete paper and wood case that has been repaired at the spine. The image is dark
as seen in the scan. #4690=$625.00
