This 1/4 plate tintype is not in the best of condition. It has a couple of bends laterally across the bottom where the
emulsion is missing. There are a few other bends, but not nearly as noticeable. That said, the rest of this image is fantastic.
The trooper wears a 4 button sack coat, trousers with a reinforced inseam, a light colored military vest and a western style hat.
He holds in his right hand (reversed of course) an unsheathed saber and in his left he steadies the scabbard. The rarity of this
image is the carbine hanging from his right hip. I'm not expert, but it looks like it could be a Merrill Carbine to me. He wears a
waist belt with a rectangular eagle belt plate, a carbine belt across his chest and another cross chest belt that likely holds a
haversack or a canteen that is not seen in the image. This photo is taken in a studio with a white sheet backdrop. The focus is
a bit soft unfortunately. This image comes in a nice wood and paper case that is split at the seam. One more thing, the cover glass
on this image is very thick! I don't know what that means, but it does fit in the case well. #9773=$950.00
