Welcome to SoldierCollectibles Tootsietoy area. In 1893, Samuel Dowst saw a new type-casting machine located at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. He recognized the possiblity of making molds to cast lead or similar type metal. The start of the die-cast industry was born thanks to his success with making molds for collar buttons. The evolution toward Tootsietoy products continued to advance. Starting first with trinkets for the candy industry as prize items to be put in their penny packages. The year 1906 saw the first successful toy produced: Henry Ford's very famous Model T. Around 50 million attractively packaged Tootsietoy Model T's were produced. The rest is history from there with many varieties of Tootsietoy vehicles. This section focuses mainly on Pre-War automobiles (mainly the GM series) and ships that were produced beginning in 1940.
